A devastating accident occurred on Monday morning in Lagos, resulting in the loss of a young female biker’s life. According to eyewitnesses, a loaded containerized truck lost control while descending Iganmu Bridge and fell on the biker, causing fatal injuries.
The incident occurred at around 6:15 am at Sifax Inward, Iganmu Bridge, leaving the community in shock. The driver of the truck, who was reportedly speeding, fled the scene upon realizing the gravity of the situation.
Responders from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), and the Lagos State Ambulance Service were quickly summoned to the scene. Personnel from LASTMA and LASEMA worked together to extricate the body of the deceased from under the wreckage of the truck.
The female biker’s body was later taken away by ambulance personnel, while the truck was removed to clear the way for normal traffic flow on Iganmu Bridge. Officials of the Nigerian Police from Ijora Badia provided needed security during the rescue operation.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and has issued a warning to truck drivers to adhere to speed limits within and outside the state. Additionally, motorcycle operators have been advised to obey traffic rules and regulations as stipulated in the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
