The Federal Government of Nigeria has given the green light for a salary increase ranging from 25% to 35% for civil servants across the remaining six Consolidated Salary Structures. This increment follows previous raises granted to those in the Tertiary Education and Health Sectors, encompassing various salary structures such as CONUASS, CONTISS, CONPCASS, CONTEDISS, CONMESS, and CONHESS.
According to a statement released by Emmanuel Njoku, the Head of Press at the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission (NSIWC), the salary hikes will be retroactively effective from January 1, 2024. Notably, the increases apply to civil servants in Polytechnics, Colleges of Education, and other tertiary educational institutions, as well as those in the health sector.
Furthermore, the Federal Government has also given its nod to a pension increment ranging from 20% to 28% for pensioners under the Defined Benefits Scheme. This increase mirrors the salary adjustments for civil servants and extends to pensioners covered by the aforementioned consolidated salary structures. The enhanced pensions will also take effect from January 1, 2024.
