Germany’s President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Undertake Official Visit to Nigeria from December 10-12, 2024

Germany’s President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, is set to embark on a three-day official visit to Nigeria, commencing on December 10, 2024, and concluding on December 12, 2024. The announcement was made public through a press release by the German Embassy in Abuja on Monday.

During his stay, President Steinmeier is expected to meet with several prominent Nigerian leaders, including President Bola Tinubu and Dr. Alieu Touray, who serves as the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission.

In Abuja, discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral ties between Germany and Nigeria. Following his time in the capital, Steinmeier will proceed to Lagos, where he intends to engage with business leaders, tour a start-up hub, and meet notable individuals from Nigeria’s cultural and civil society sectors, including renowned artist Dr. Nike Okundaye and Nobel Prize-winning author Professor Wole Soyinka.

Additionally, the German President plans to explore Lagos to gain insight into the urban challenges and opportunities faced by Africa’s largest metropolis. He will be accompanied by a delegation of leading German business figures.

The embassy’s statement elaborated on President Steinmeier’s itinerary, indicating, “The President of the Federal Republic of Germany, His Excellency Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier is scheduled to arrive in Nigeria tomorrow, December 10. His visit will last until the 12th of December 2024. While in Abuja, he will engage with the Nigerian President, His Excellency Bola Tinubu, and the President of the ECOWAS Commission, His Excellency Dr. Alieu Touray.”

The statement continued, detailing that in Lagos, the German leader will meet with business representatives, visit a start-up hub, and connect with key figures in Nigeria’s arts and civil sectors, including Dr. Nike Okundaye, famously known as Mama Nike from the Nike Art Gallery, and the esteemed author and Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka.

Moreover, the visit includes a tour of Lagos, providing an opportunity to delve into the issues related to urban development, encompassing both environmental and social challenges. President Steinmeier will be joined by a delegation consisting of CEOs and senior board members from some of Germany’s most prominent companies in sectors such as IT, high technology, and energy, underscoring the increasing interest of German businesses in investment opportunities within Nigeria.
