Governor Akeredolu of Ondo Passes on at 67 After Prolonged Battle With Cancer

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has died after a prolonged battle with prostrate cancer and Leukemia. He was 67.

According to reports, Akeredolu died on Wednesday at around 2 a.m. in the morning while undergoing treatment in a German hospital.

His battle with the ailments made him spend months abroad. He returned to Nigeria in September and settled in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

However, on Wednesday, December 13, he proceeded on another medical leave and wrote a notice formally transferring power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa who later assumed the responsibilities of the governor in full acting capacity.

Following his return to Nigeria in September, Akeredolu stayed in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital and tried to govern his state from there, leading to public outrage.
