Gunmen on Rampage, Kidnap Students, Kill One in Uturu, Abia

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen went on rampage on Saturday, robbing travelers and reportedly kidnapped students of the Abia State University in Uturu, Abia state, local sources have confirmed.

Travelers along the Port Harcourt – Enugu and along Okigwe -Enugu routes were robbed and student of Marist Comprehensive Academy in Uturu was reportedly killed by the gunmen.

A statement from Marist Comprehensive Academy confirming the death of its students said its students were attacked by the gunmen along Ihube road in Okigwe and Edeh Donald was shot and killed in the process.

“Some students from Marist Comprehensive Academy, Uturu, Abia State were attacked by armed bandits around Ihube road in Okigwe LGA on their way from a Final Religious Profession of some Marist Brothers.”

“In the course of the robbery attack, one student in the person of Edeh Donald was shot and he later died.”

“Three other students were injured. They are receiving treatment and they are responding to the treatment.” The statement by Marist read.

The Abia state police command confirmed the attacks and said its officers had swung into action to fish out the perpetrators.
