The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) urged Ndigbo to comply with the call to abstain from any activities related to Nigeria’s Independence Day.
The Indigenous People of Biafra has issued a statement prohibiting the celebration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day in the South-East region. According to the separatist group, anyone found participating in activities to mark the Independence Day would be viewed as an enemy of the land.
In the announcement made on Monday, the group emphasized that Igbo individuals should continue with their daily activities or stay indoors if they prefer, but they should refrain from engaging in any form of activities in commemoration of Nigeria’s independence.
The Indigenous People of Biafra asserted that despite the fact that Igbo people were involved in the struggle for Nigeria’s independence, the union has not been beneficial to them.
The statement declared, “IPOB calls on Biafrans worldwide to go about their normal business because we are not part of Nigeria and have nothing to do with their British-flag independence of 1960. We are aware that some prominent Igbo men and women played pivotal roles in securing the flag independence that Nigeria celebrates annually on every October 1st; however, such independence has taken more blood of Ndigbo to maintain than that of any other ethnic group in Nigeria.
“Biafrans have decided to reject the bloody flag independence of Nigeria and work for the restoration of a truly united and prosperous independent State of Biafra. Therefore, every Biafran should reject this Nigerian forced unity as we look forward to celebrating Biafra’s independence soon.”
The Indigenous People of Biafra urged Ndigbo to comply with the call to abstain from any activities related to Nigeria’s Independence Day. They stated that there should be no display of Nigerian flags in Biafran territory and no independence-related activities for students in the region.
The group emphasized that they are serious about the restoration of Biafra’s freedom and sovereignty and warned against participating in Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations. They also advised parents and guardians not to allow their children to partake in any Nigerian independence activities, as they continue to monitor the situation in Biafraland.
