NAFDAC Seizes 3 Petrol Tankers Transporting Vegetable Oil in Lagos

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated three petrol tankers found transporting edible oil in Lagos State. The seizure occurred in the Apapa area, following a tip-off.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, NAFDAC detailed the operation, including a video clip of an official explaining the situation. The official revealed that the tankers, typically used for carrying petroleum products, were being utilized to transport vegetable oil, posing a significant public health risk.

“A credible source informed us that the same tankers used for loading vegetable oil had previously been used for petroleum products,” the official stated. “This is a serious public health issue that demanded NAFDAC’s immediate attention. We promptly moved to the area, intercepted the trucks as they were being loaded, and brought them in for further investigation.”

The ongoing investigation has linked the operation to Wharf 302 Products and Beverages, raising concerns about the practice of using the same vehicles for both petroleum and food products. The official emphasized the dangers of mixing petroleum products, known to be carcinogenic, with edible items, warning that such practices are unsafe for human consumption. In related news, NAFDAC has launched a 3-day operation to eradicate fake milo products in Bauchi State.
