NNPC Announces Significant Changes in Executive Leadership
The NNPCL has also made significant progress in addressing the issue of oil theft, which had earlier plummeted oil production to a low of 900,000 barrels per day.

Nigeria – The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has expressed optimism that it can increase crude oil production from its current 1.7 million barrels per day to a record 3 million barrels per day, with the support of government and private security agencies.

According to Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPCL, the company’s efforts to combat oil theft and pipeline vandalism have already yielded significant results, with daily oil production rising from 1.4 million barrels to 1.7 million barrels in recent months.

Soneye attributed the increased production to the political will demonstrated by President Bola Tinubu, who has directed relevant security agencies to take decisive action against oil theft and pipeline vandalism. The official also emphasized the importance of collaboration between government, private security agencies, oil companies, and host communities to achieve optimal oil production levels of 2.5 to 3 million barrels per day.

The NNPCL has also made significant progress in addressing the issue of oil theft, which had earlier plummeted oil production to a low of 900,000 barrels per day. According to Soneye, the intensified fight against oil theft has alleviated concerns and created an enabling environment for increased production.

The company’s efforts to combat oil theft have been yielding results, with over 8,000 illegal refineries and 5,800 illegal oil pipeline connections detected and destroyed in the last six months. Bayelsa, Rivers, Imo, and Abia states have been identified as hotspots for this criminal activity.

The presentation by Murtala Muhammad, Deputy Manager at the NNPC Command and Control Centre, highlighted the economic impact of crude oil theft on Nigeria’s economy. The NNPCL has also called on journalists to play a crucial role in promoting national interest and fairness in their reporting.

In a related development, Professor Taiye Obateru emphasized the importance of fairness and national interest in all journalistic endeavors during a presentation on “Balancing Reporting and Nation Building: The Role of the National Assembly Press Corps.”
