Peter Obi Donates N60 Million to Educational Institutions in Anambra State

Anambra State, NigeriaPeter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has made a significant philanthropic contribution to educational institutions, donating N60 million to Peter University and the School of Nursing in Adazi-Nnukwu, Anambra State.

Of the total donation, N50 million is allocated for Peter University, while N10 million is designated for the School of Nursing. Obi stated that this initiative reflects his unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of education across Nigeria.

During the cheque presentation ceremony, Obi spoke about the crucial role that quality education plays in national development. He encouraged students to strive for academic excellence, emphasizing that investing in education is tantamount to investing in the future. He remarked that education serves as the “most impactful tool for societal progress” and urged students to view themselves as future leaders capable of effecting positive change in society.

At the College of Nursing Sciences in Adazi-Nnukwu, Obi reiterated his commitment to supporting institutions that cultivate skills, professionalism, and ethical character. He addressed the issue of skilled nurses leaving the country for better opportunities, advising those who choose to emigrate to consider returning once Nigeria is adequately reformed. He assured that he, along with like-minded individuals, is dedicated to realizing this vision, believing that their talents will ultimately contribute to the nation’s advancement.

In his remarks, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, expressed deep appreciation for Obi’s unwavering dedication to education. He recalled how Obi played a crucial role in transforming the state’s educational landscape, particularly through the return of schools to the Church, which reinvigorated both school infrastructure and academic performance.

Bishop Ezeokafor also acknowledged Obi’s contributions to the university, specifically highlighting his sponsorship of an entrepreneurship center designed to equip students with practical skills for self-sufficiency and innovation.
