The Reels Play bonus program
In 2023, Meta put a hold on the Reels Play bonus program, which paid creators on Instagram and Facebook when they reached certain video-viewing benchmarks.
The Reels bonus program was initially launched it in 2021 to rival with TikTok monetization. Creators saw huge payouts — sometimes earnings surged to tens of thousands of dollars. However, in 2022, some creators reported that payments had dropped, and it was becoming harder to make the same amount in bonuses.
Meta eventually called it off in 2023. Hence, the bonus program does not currently include earnings on reels )(short videos) but supports earnings on longer videos.
