Port Harcourt Refinery Set to Supply Independent Marketers This Week, Says IPMAN
Port Harcourt Refinery to Commence Operations Soon

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has assured that the Port Harcourt refinery will soon commence operations, despite the recent delays. According to sources close to the corporation, the Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, is committed to ensuring that the refinery operates at maximum capacity before its public launch.

During a recent media parley in Effurun, Delta State, NNPCL’s spokesperson, Solomon Oseagah, clarified that the delays at the Port Harcourt Refinery are not due to technical unpreparedness, but rather a commitment to ensuring the refinery operates at optimal capacity before its official inauguration. The facility is already producing petroleum products and is expected to be commissioned by President Bola Tinubu before the end of the year.

Oseagah attributed the ongoing challenges in the nation’s refineries to the corporation’s diligence in addressing setbacks and ensuring that the refineries do not shut down for repairs again. He emphasized the need for journalists to conduct thorough fact-checking and maintain objectivity when reporting on NNPCL’s activities.

On the controversy surrounding NNPCL’s relationship with Dangote Refinery, Oseagah defended NNPCL’s position, stating that its actions are aimed at ensuring the proper functioning of the Nigerian petroleum industry for the benefit of all Nigerians. He clarified that NNPCL has no pricing authority over Dangote Refinery, as market forces determine prices under the deregulated system.

The media parley also highlighted the need for greater transparency within NNPCL. Participants called on Kyari to facilitate clearer communication by allowing representatives from other companies and agencies under NNPCL’s umbrella to engage directly with the public through the media. This move would improve public understanding of the various roles and responsibilities within the petroleum sector, fostering accountability and collaboration among all stakeholders.

Overall, NNPCL is committed to ensuring that its refineries operate at maximum capacity and are transparent in their operations. The corporation is working to address challenges and improve communication with stakeholders to ensure a more efficient and effective petroleum sector.
