President Tinubu Emphasizes Commitment to Serving Nigeria, Not Personal Gain
Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his commitment to serving the country, not personal gain, in a meeting with the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of the National Assembly. The meeting, held at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, was attended by 16 former presiding officers, including former Senate Presidents and Speakers of the House of Representatives.
In a statement, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, revealed that Tinubu told the forum that he did not come into office to exploit the situation for personal gain. Instead, he emphasized his administration’s focus on delivering tangible results and making a positive difference in the nation’s infrastructure, food and energy security, education, and long-term economic stability.
The President acknowledged the support and encouragement from the forum members, regardless of party affiliations, and urged them to continue fostering unity and camaraderie to achieve national development goals. He highlighted the complex nature of legislative activities, constitutional reviews, and nation-building processes, expressing confidence that Nigeria can progress through collaboration and inclusiveness.
Tinubu also took a swipe at previous administrations for neglecting the country’s infrastructure and communities. He lamented the dilapidated state of schools and the lack of investment in education. “We must ask ourselves what we did when we had very high crude production,” he said. “We neglected our communities; we forgot even to give them a good standard of living.”
The President outlined his administration’s plans to address these challenges, including improving infrastructure, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, exploring alternative energy sources, and providing energy security. He urged the former presiding officers to continue sharing their wealth of experience in nation-building and governance.
In a statement on behalf of the delegation, former Senate President Ken Nnamani expressed full support for President Tinubu’s administration and its efforts to address Nigeria’s pressing challenges. He congratulated the President on his first official engagement with the group since his assumption of office and praised his courage in handling the issue of local government autonomy.
Nnamani commended Tinubu for appointing some of their members to critical national positions, recognizing their vital role in nation-building. The group pledged its support to the President as he works to restore national security, build an economy that works for all, and strengthen the bond of unity among Nigerians.
The meeting was seen as a significant step towards building bridges between the executive and legislative arms of government, as well as fostering national unity and cooperation.
