A Lance Corporal in the Nigerian Army, Abdullahi Ismail, has been discharged from service after being found guilty of engaging in a sexual relationship with a colleague’s wife, sources have revealed to SaharaReporters.
Ismail’s dismissal took place earlier this week at the 231 Battalion located in Biu, Borno State, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter.
Sources within the army confirmed that Ismail’s dismissal was a result of his involvement with a fellow soldier’s wife, citing it as a deterrent to others engaged in similar misconduct within military barracks.
The discharged soldier had reportedly garnered a reputation for sexual misconduct prior to his dismissal, leading to his eventual report to army authorities.
Ismail’s actions, categorized as indecent professional misconduct and adultery with a fellow soldier’s spouse, are in violation of Sections 79 and 93 of the Armed Forces Act CAP A20, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. These sections stipulate penalties including imprisonment and dismissal from service with dishonor.
This development comes shortly after the Nigerian Army recently dismissed two soldiers for their involvement in the theft of armoured cables from the Dangote Refinery located in Lagos.
