The World Trade Organization (WTO) has officially inaugurated a $1.2 million standards trade development facility in Nigeria. This global initiative aims to empower developing countries, particularly Nigeria, in bolstering food safety and ensuring the health of animals and plants through the adoption of best practices.

Nigeria, acclaimed as the third-largest producer of sesame in Africa, reported an output of approximately 500 metric tonnes in 2022. Additionally, the country boasts an annual production of over 5.2 million metric tonnes of dried cowpea, underscoring its significance in the global agricultural landscape.
Dr. Okonjo-Iweala emphasized the pivotal role of the newly established facility in addressing these challenges.
