Anambra, Nigeria – A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Mr. Rilwanu Amos Yakubu, has empowered 60 students across various schools in Anambra State with skills in videography and photography as part of his personal community development project.

Yakubu, an English and Literature graduate from the Federal University, Lokoja, spent three months of his service year organizing intensive theoretical and practical sessions for the students.

The training, which took place in Awka, drew participants from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Community Secondary School Okpuno, Capital City Secondary School Okpuno, Debino Amura Vocational Institute, Prime Zee International Academy, and Rehabort International College, all in Okpuno.

Of the 60 beneficiaries, eight students were identified as exceptional. Yakubu announced that these eight students would receive an additional one-month intensive training, at the end of which the best performer would be selected.

Speaking at the event, the State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Blessing Ekene Iruma, commended Yakubu for his initiative, describing him as an asset to the nation. She noted that he leveraged the NYSC’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program to empower students with skills that can make them self-reliant.

Mrs. Iruma encouraged the beneficiaries to build on the skills they acquired and strive towards self-sufficiency, especially given the current economic challenges in the country.

Yakubu’s employer, Rev. Fr. Robert Aniagboso, Director of Fides Media in Okpuno, praised the corps member for his dedication and exceptional qualities. He highlighted Yakubu’s professionalism in carrying out his duties at his place of primary assignment and his commitment to training the students in digital literacy.

Rev. Fr. Aniagboso also pledged to employ the best performer from the shortlisted eight students at Fides Media, upon completion of their extended training.
