Nembe, Nigeria – The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Godgift Bai, for allegedly circulating a nude video of a young girl on social media.
Bai, a resident of Ogbolomabiri in the Nembe Local Government Area, was apprehended in Yenagoa on September 3, 2024.
According to a statement released by the police spokesperson, ASP Musa Mohammed, the arrest was made following a directive from the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Alonyenu Francis Idu. The Cybercrime Unit of the command conducted a thorough investigation which led to the apprehension of the suspect.
“The Command condemns the act of cyberstalking, especially targeting vulnerable individuals, and reiterates its commitment to curbing such crimes within the state,” the statement read.
The police further urged the public to refrain from engaging in online exploitation, warning that such offenses would be met with legal consequences.
The investigation continues, and the suspect is likely to be arraigned in court soon to face charges.
