Port Harcourt, Nigeria – A director with the Rivers State Board of Internal Revenue Service, identified as Aribibia Fubara, has been abducted by gunmen in a daring attack in the Marine Base area of Port Harcourt on Monday.

The assailants, reportedly numbering about six, arrived at the scene via a speedboat through the Okirika waterfront. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with the gunmen shooting indiscriminately into the air, causing widespread panic.

In the midst of the confusion, the gunmen identified Fubara, swiftly whisked him into their boat, and sped off to an unknown destination.

The victim, who is also a Knight of Saint Christopher in the Anglican Communion, Church of Nigeria, has yet to be located, and the captors have not made any contact with his family as of Monday evening.

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the abduction, with the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, stating that an investigation has been launched. The Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered the deployment of all tactical units and has alerted area commanders to ensure the safe rescue of Fubara.

Iringe-Koko emphasized that the CP has given clear directives for the apprehension of the suspects, who will be made to face the full weight of the law.

In a related incident, a middle-aged woman, identified as Theresa Awuhe, was killed by gunmen in Makurdi, Benue State, over the weekend. Awuhe, who was returning home from her shop, was ambushed by the assailants near Villa Suite. The attackers, who did not take any of her belongings, fled the scene after shooting her.

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the killing, with SP Catherine Anene, the command’s spokesperson, noting that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
