Enugu, Nigeria – The Enugu State Government has entered into a $100 million partnership with Austrian company WANDE NEXUS to execute the Sustainable Last Mile Connectivity and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Project.
The agreement, signed on Monday at the Government House was witnessed by the Austrian Ambassador to Nigeria, Thomas Schlesinger. The project is expected to attract Foreign Direct Investment to modernize Enugu’s water infrastructure, improve service delivery, and ensure equitable access to clean water for all households in the city.
Governor Peter Mbah disclosed that his administration had increased water production from a sporadic two million liters to 120 million liters. However, he noted that expanding the water distribution network and connecting tertiary pipelines to homes remained a critical challenge.
Speaking at the event, Mbah emphasized the immediate impact of the agreement. “This is not just an exploratory arrangement; it is a final agreement with funds set to flow immediately. Discussions started eight months ago, progressing from a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to a Concession Agreement. With today’s signing, we expect procurement for meters and last-mile connectivity to commence without delay,” he said.
The initiative aims to resolve water distribution challenges and enhance access to clean water for residents, marking a significant step in achieving the administration’s developmental goals.
