Rivers State Governor Pledges Immediate Infrastructure Upgrades at Ignatius Ajuru University
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has announced swift intervention plans to enhance and modernize the infrastructure at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education. Following a recent walkthrough of the university’s facilities in the Rumuolumeni community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, the governor revealed that construction work will soon begin on several critical projects, including an administrative block, male and female hostels, a health center, and a sports complex.
The governor’s decision came after he inspected the university’s current infrastructure, which he described as regrettably inadequate. His visit was prompted by a request from the university’s governing council for urgent governmental support to address the shortcomings. During the tour, Fubara was accompanied by the Vice-Chancellor, Okechukwu Onuchukwu, and the Chairman of the Governing Council, Adokiye Amiesimaka.
Fubara expressed disappointment at the state of improvement within the institution, highlighting that the only advancements had been facilitated through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). He stated, “It is unfortunate that, as a government, we have not done much for a school under our control. Based on what I have seen and the university’s management, we will promptly approve the Governing Council’s requests.”
The proposed developments encompass new student hostels, an administrative facility, a health center, and a sports complex, which the governor officially sanctioned. He commended the Vice-Chancellor for his leadership and encouraged the entire management team to maintain high standards.
Addressing the students, Fubara urged them to maximize their time at the university. “You are fortunate to be here today make the most of it. Don’t just pass through the school. If you merely pass through, you will graduate with nothing. Allow the school experience to enrich you so that you graduate with something valuable and impactful,” he said.
The governor reiterated his administration’s dedication to enhancing the university’s infrastructure and the quality of education, promising to take all necessary steps to achieve these objectives.
