Governor Hope Uzodinma of the Imo State Government has officially entered into a partnership with Eastern Waste Management Company Limited, a reputable German firm to enhance waste management and environmental cleanliness.
The signing ceremony, held at the Government House in Owerri, saw Governor Uzodimma expressing confidence in the company’s ability to deliver based on its track record in other states and recent pilot programs within Imo State.
Governor Uzodimma highlighted the importance of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) law enacted in 2018, emphasizing its role in leveraging private sector expertise for public benefit.
He stressed the need for such collaborations, especially in light of the financial constraints faced by the state.
Under the agreement, Eastern Waste Management Company Limited will spearhead waste collection and recycling efforts, aiming to create a cleaner and healthier environment while generating employment opportunities for the people of Imo State.
The governor assured that the partnership had undergone rigorous vetting by the Attorney General of the State, underscoring the government’s commitment to its success.
He called upon the technical and financial partners to fulfil their obligations to ensure the project’s maximum benefit to the citizens.
The collaboration marks a significant step towards improving sanitation standards and fostering sustainable development in Imo State.
