Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has underscored the critical importance of a robust healthcare system in fostering societal development.

Speaking during a meeting with the leadership of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), led by its National President, Dr. Uche Ojinmah, Governor Fubara highlighted the necessity of ensuring the health and productivity of the state’s citizens.

The governor affirmed his administration’s commitment to revitalizing the state’s ailing healthcare sector, which he described as having operated with inadequate secondary healthcare facilities. As part of these efforts, Prof. Chizindu Alikor has been appointed as the substantive Chief Medical Director of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital.

“The Governor and his team cannot succeed without your support. That is the truth, and any government that has the interest of its people at heart must pay adequate attention to the provision of quality healthcare services,” stated Chief Press Secretary Nelson Chulwudi, quoting the Governor.

Fubara reiterated that the health of the workforce is directly linked to productivity and emphasized the need to address the challenges inherited in the healthcare sector.

He acknowledged the ongoing reconstruction and reinforcement of health facilities, particularly those offering intermediary services, and pledged continued support and motivation for healthcare personnel.

In response, Dr. Uche Ojinmah, the National President of the NMA, expressed gratitude to Governor Fubara for his efforts to improve conditions for medical personnel in Rivers State.

Governor Fubara concluded by thanking the NMA for their support and pledged to sustain efforts to strengthen the healthcare sector for the benefit of all citizens.
