Hamas Leader Sinwar Pushes for a Deadly Tactics As Hamas Battles Israeli Forces, Reviving the Terrors of the Past
Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar has called for the revival of suicide bombings, signaling a significant shift in tactics as the conflict with Israel intensifies. According to The Wall Street Journal, Sinwar, responsible for orchestrating the brutal attacks on Israel on October 7, conveyed to senior Hamas operatives that it was time to resume these tactics, citing Arab intelligence sources.
Sinwar, who took full control of Hamas following the death of Ismail Haniyeh earlier this year, played a pivotal role in the cross-border assaults that led to the massacre of civilians in southern Israel. Although Hamas largely abandoned suicide bombings nearly two decades ago due to fears of political isolation, recent statements from Sinwar and other Hamas leaders, such as Khaled Mashaal, have reignited calls for these radical operations.
Hamas Leadership Pushes for Aggressive Stance
Khaled Mashaal, a senior Hamas figure, hinted at this shift in August during a conference in Turkey, stating, “We want to return to martyrdom operations. This situation can only be addressed by open conflict.”
For years, internal divisions within Hamas have seen more politically pragmatic leaders clash with hard-liners like Sinwar, who advocates for violent confrontations, including civilian deaths, to destabilize Israel. With Sinwar now in charge, analysts suggest Hamas may adopt an increasingly hard-line, fundamentalist approach as they continue their confrontation with Israeli forces in Gaza.
Experts like Matthew Levitt from the Washington Institute warn that under Sinwar’s leadership, Hamas is becoming an uncompromising force, prioritizing violence over political negotiations.
