Joe Biden to Meet Zelenskyy at UN General Assembly as He Aims to Fortify Ukraine’s Position Before Term Ends

President Joe Biden plans to use the remainder of his term to bolster Ukraine’s standing in its fight against Russia, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan announced on Saturday. Speaking remotely at a Kyiv forum, Sullivan emphasized that Biden’s focus is ensuring Ukraine is in the “best possible position to prevail” in the ongoing conflict.

Sullivan also confirmed that Biden will meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in late September at the UN General Assembly in New York. The leaders will discuss further U.S. aid to Ukraine, underscoring Biden’s continued commitment to the war-torn country.

“President Zelenskyy has made it clear that, ultimately, this war will end through negotiations, and Ukraine needs to be strong at the negotiating table,”

Sullivan stated, while noting that Kyiv will determine the timing of any talks with Russia.

As Biden’s term winds down, his administration’s approach to Ukraine is expected to remain consistent, whether through a potential presidency of Vice President Kamala Harris or a shift in direction under former president Donald Trump, who recently avoided stating his stance on Ukraine’s victory during a debate.
