In a bid to promote adherence to building regulations and ensure public safety, the Lagos State Government has introduced a discount and amnesty program aimed at encouraging property owners to obtain necessary permits.
According to Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, the initiative seeks to address existing non-compliance and promote a more regulated building environment.
The discount entails a 40% rebate on planning permits, with an additional incentive for civil servants. Furthermore, a 90-day amnesty period has been announced, allowing property owners with unpermitted buildings to apply for permits without facing penalties.
Dr. Olumide emphasized the importance of maintaining high developmental standards and urged property owners to take advantage of the amnesty period, which runs from May 2 to July 30, 2024. Additionally, a five percent discount is applicable to payments completed within 10 working days of the bill’s issuance.
This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring a sustainable urban environment and encouraging compliance with building regulations across Lagos State.
