Enugu, Nigeria – A devastating petrol tanker crash in Enugu on Saturday claimed 18 lives, leaving 13 others injured. The tragic incident, which involved a petroleum-laden tanker, occurred due to brake failure, resulting in a massive fire and destruction of vehicles.

According to a statement from Olusegun Ogungbemide, Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the crash involved 17 vehicles, including a petrol tanker, a water tanker, 15 other vehicles, and a tricycle.

The tanker, loaded with premium motor spirit, lost control after experiencing brake failure and collided with multiple vehicles, igniting a blaze that destroyed 11 of them. The petrol tanker crash affected a total of 31 people, leaving 18 victims burned beyond recognition. Ten individuals sustained injuries, while three others escaped unhurt.

The FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, extended condolences to the victims’ families and emphasized the importance of vehicle maintenance and adherence to road safety regulations. He also urged motorists to use alternative routes and exercise caution.
