Ogun, Nigeria – The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 35-year-old man, Emmanuel Urhobocha, in what appears to be a case of suicide in Sango-Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun Police Command, Omolola Odutola, the incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Friday. Urhobocha was discovered lying face down with a container of insecticide beside his body, suggesting that he may have ingested the toxic substance.
The situation was reported by the deceased’s roommate, Obabiyi David, who informed the Sango-Ota Police Division about Urhobocha’s unusual behavior prior to his death. David claimed that Urhobocha had attacked him with a knife, though he managed to escape uninjured.
A police team was dispatched to question Urhobocha regarding the alleged attack, but upon arrival, they found the door to his room locked from the inside. After forcing the door open, officers found Urhobocha unresponsive.
“He was discovered dead in the apartment, with a container of insecticide found next to his body,” Odutola stated.
The deceased was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where a doctor confirmed his death. His body has since been moved to a morgue for an autopsy.
The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding Urhobocha’s death.
