The Federal High Court in Lagos has convicted the controversial cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, for abusing the Naira.
Presiding Justice Abimbola Awogboro delivered the verdict following a thorough review of the case’s facts.
During his allocutus, Bobrisky expressed his unawareness of the law regarding Naira abuse, emphasizing his status as a social media influencer with a massive following of over five million. However, Justice Awogboro sternly reminded him that ignorance of the law does not excuse his actions.
In a bid for leniency, Bobrisky pleaded for a second chance, proposing to utilize his platform to educate his followers about responsible monetary practices.
He vowed to create a video addressing the issue of money spraying and promised not to repeat the offense, expressing remorse for his actions.
The charges against Bobrisky, brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), included four counts of Naira abuse. The self-styled “Mummy of Lagos” pleaded guilty to all charges.
This ruling marks a development in the legal landscape regarding financial misconduct on social media platforms.
