Abuja, Nigeria – An explosion at an Islamiyyah school in the Kuchibiyu Community of Bwari Area Council, Abuja, has claimed the life of one student and left four others injured. The tragic incident occurred around noon on Monday, according to sources.

Emergency responders, including the police bomb disposal squad, quickly arrived at the scene, and the injured were transported to the hospital for treatment. However, authorities have yet to release an official statement. Efforts to reach Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, have so far been unsuccessful.

A security source disclosed that the deceased, a student whose identity remains unknown, was allegedly in possession of a substance suspected to be an improvised explosive device (IED) when it detonated. The explosion caused panic and injuries among other students.

The source added that the students involved had only recently resumed classes at the school on January 3, 2025. Further details about the explosion and its circumstances remain unclear as investigations continue.

Authorities at the school have yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.
