Fire outbreak occurred early Friday morning at the newly rebranded Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) terminal on Kayode Street, Marine Beach, Apapa, Lagos.
Eyewitnesses reported a massive explosion around 11 am, prompting frantic efforts to control the blaze before the arrival of emergency responders.
The incident, attributed to a petroleum product spillage within the terminal’s perimeter, has raised concerns about safety protocols. Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed the fire and highlighted ongoing efforts to manage the situation.
“The fire resulted from a spillage of petroleum products within the perimeter of the terminal tank farm,” Adeseye stated. “Concerted efforts with various emergency responders within the oil and gas industry are underway to contain the situation.”
The Lagos State Fire Service, via its X account, assured the public that the fire is under control. “Multiple emergency response teams from the oil and gas sector are collaborating to contain the situation effectively,” the agency said. “We want to assure the public that the emergency response is under control and measures are in place
