Ilorin, Nigeria – Thirteen wedding guests abducted in the Idofin-Igbana area of Oke-Ero Local Government Area, Kwara State, have been rescued by the state police command. The victims were kidnapped on December 21, 2024, while traveling to a wedding in neighboring Kogi Statek
In a statement released on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed that the rescued individuals include 10 men and 3 women from various communities in Kwara and Oyo states. The victims also included trailer drivers headed to Kogi State.
According to the statement, the victims were intercepted by six armed kidnappers, some disguised in military uniforms, along the Idofin-Igbana route. Acting on credible intelligence, a joint team of police operatives and the Oke-Ero Local Government Security Initiative personnel launched a rescue mission.
“The kidnappers, upon sighting the security team, engaged them in a gun battle but were overpowered by the superior firepower of the operatives,” Ejire-Adeyemi stated.
The operation successfully secured the release of all 13 abducted individuals, who hailed from locations including Odo-Owa in Oke-Ero LGA, Ilorin, and Ogbomoso.
