Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has accused the army officers of the six division of the Nigeria Army for trailing his convoy and had argument with his escort off Abacha road axis which aborted their plan assassination attempt on his life
Governor Wike made the allegation after he had a close door meeting with some election observers at government house, Port Harcourt.
The election observers were led by the political Officers of the British High Commission, Louis Edwards.
Governor Wike recalled how army officers laid surveillance at his country home on the 15th February 2019 while he was at government house.
While the attempt on his life failed, governor Wike said the army has already adopted two of the 182 persons penned down for arrest in Eleme Local government area which is not necessary.
The governor said it is the General Officer Commanding the six Division of the Nigeria Army that is issuing the directives to his men
Already, he had been promised the post of chief of Army staff should he execute the orders given to him.
Governor Wike condemned the overt interest if the army in the elections and determining to influence the outcome in favour of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Such attempt is capable of disrupting the peace, chase investors away from the state and further impact the nations economy as Rivers state is strategic to Nigeria.
Governor Wike said it is the same Nigerians who voted in a free and fair election in 2015 that are going to the polls and the allow them vote their preferred candidates without intimidation.
The governor also alleged that APC militants are dressed in military uniforms and provided cover so that they can interfere with the electoral process and warned of dare post election consequences.
Political Officers the British High Commission Mrs Louis Edwards said with her colleagues, they had held meeting with the major political stakeholders on the elections.
He expressed the hope that the elections will be peaceful and that the electorates will be allowed to vote freely to determine their next political leaders.
