NAF continues to play a crucial role in the fight against terrorism in the North-East region, conducting precision air strikes to disrupt and destroy terrorist strongholds.
Maiduguri – The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully destroyed a suspected Boko Haram Improvised Explosive Device (IED) factory, two gun trucks, and neutralized several terrorists in Grazah, Mandara mountains, Borno State.
According to Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, the operation was carried out on August 2 in response to intelligence reports. These reports indicated that an IED factory and logistics storage area, previously relocated from Gwoza to the Sambisa forest and then to Grazah in the Mandara hills, had been under surveillance for several weeks.
The frequent relocation of IED factories is attributed to the intense military pressure on terrorist enclaves.
Gabkwet confirmed that the targets were acquired and effectively destroyed, with a thick cloud of smoke following the air strikes, indicating the destruction of the IED factory and gun trucks.
The operation comes after a series of recent terror attacks in Borno State, including multiple suicide bombings in Gwoza that claimed 38 lives and left dozens injured in June, and an IED detonation in Kawuri that killed nine people and injured 20 others last week.
