The FCT police command has successfully dismantled a notorious armed robbery gang operating within the territory.
The mastermind behind the criminal activities, Chukwuemeka Oputa, known by his alias “Pounds and Dollar,” along with four accomplices, was apprehended following a series of coordinated operations.
According to Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the command, the arrest of Chukwuemeka Oputa, a 38-year-old native of Njaaba in Imo State, was made possible after the earlier capture of Moses Hassan, a cultist and member of the gang.
The subsequent investigation led to the identification and arrest of three other members: Praise Etta, Rafael Dav (also known as Raffy), and Thomas Akange. All suspects have confessed to their involvement in numerous armed robberies and other criminal activities in the FCT.
The police also recovered a cache of weapons, including locally fabricated AK47 rifles, locally made rifles using cartridges, pistols, and assorted ammunition, from the possession of the suspects.
Expressing his commitment to combating crime in the FCT, Commissioner of Police CP Benneth C. Igweh emphasized the importance of community vigilance and urged residents to report any suspicious activities promptly.
Efforts are underway to recover additional exhibits believed to be in possession of the suspects. Residents are encouraged to utilize police emergency lines to report any concerning behavior.
The swift and decisive action by the FCT police command underscores their dedication to maintaining law and order in the territory, making it clear that criminal activities will not be tolerated.
