Fubara lauded the Assembly for its efficiency, particularly in swiftly screening nominees and passing executive bills.
Port Harcourt, Nigeria – Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State plans to submit the state’s 2025 budget to the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led State House of Assembly, marking a significant step in the state’s financial planning.
The governor emphasized the ongoing collaboration between the state government and the legislative arm, underscoring the strong partnership aimed at advancing the welfare of Rivers residents.
Speaking at the commissioning of two modern community town halls and the launch of a tertiary scholarship and empowerment program in Akiama and Aganya communities in Bonny Local Government Area, Fubara, represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Edison Ehie, highlighted the achievements and ongoing cooperation between the executive and the legislature.
The event took place on Saturday, and a statement from the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, detailed the occasion on Sunday in Port Harcourt.
“The government and people of Rivers State heartily congratulate you and thank you for being a good ambassador of the Ibani Kingdom,” Fubara said, commending the Speaker. He added, “While the legislative arm remains independent, we will continue to collaborate to ensure prosperity for our people.”
Fubara lauded the Assembly for its efficiency, particularly in swiftly screening nominees and passing executive bills. He expressed appreciation for Speaker Oko-Jumbo’s support in facilitating the legislative processes necessary for governance, including the screening of caretaker committee chairpersons and anticipated enactment of the 2025 budget.
Addressing the Speaker’s contributions, Fubara noted the significance of constituency projects, emphasizing their importance in representing the needs of the people. He contrasted these efforts with the perceived inaction of 25 former lawmakers, who he criticized as “Abuja-based politicians” with little to show for their tenure.
“Constituency projects reflect the commitment of elected representatives. Meanwhile, the 25 former Assembly members who dismissed themselves — have they initiated any projects? Do we see them inspecting or commissioning anything? These are Abuja-based politicians!” Fubara stated.
The governor also commended Speaker Oko-Jumbo for establishing the town halls, empowering 100 Bonny indigenes financially, and providing tertiary scholarships for 30 Bonny students.
In response, Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo thanked the people of Bonny for their ongoing support of the 10th Assembly. He pledged the Assembly’s continued focus on legislative duties despite criticisms from “enemies of the state” or the 25 former members. He reassured constituents that Bonny Local Government would feature prominently in the upcoming infrastructure initiatives outlined in the 2025 budget.
“We will continue working tirelessly to ensure Bonny Kingdom’s development. Many needs remain, but as the Speaker, I assure you that the 2025 budget, which will soon be presented by His Excellency, will include Bonny Local Government,” Oko-Jumbo said.
