Abuja, Nigeria – The Senate has indicated that Nigerians should not anticipate the passage of the N49.7 trillion budget for the 2025 fiscal year before January 31, 2025.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presented the budget proposal to a joint session of the National Assembly on December 18, urging lawmakers to expedite its passage. However, the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity Chairman, Senator Yemi Adaramodu (APC, Ekiti South), disclosed that the process would extend into late January.

Addressing reporters in Abuja, Senator Adaramodu confirmed that budget defence sessions with ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) of the federal government will commence on January 7, 2025. He added that the final report by the joint appropriations committees of the Senate and House of Representatives is expected to be laid on January 31, 2025.

“The joint committees of the Senate and House of Representatives will begin meetings with MDAs on January 7, and the final report will be presented on January 31,” Adaramodu stated.

The appropriation bill has already passed its second reading in both chambers of the National Assembly, signaling progress in the legislative process.
