BREAKING: Tinubu Appoints Acting Accountant General of the Federation

Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Mr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), following the pre-retirement leave of the outgoing AGF, Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein.

The announcement was made in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The appointment takes immediate effect and is aimed at ensuring a smooth transition in the nation’s treasury management and further consolidating ongoing reforms under the Tinubu administration.


Mr. Ogunjimi, a seasoned civil servant with over three decades of experience in financial management across public and private sectors, is the most senior director in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF). He previously served as Director of Funds at the OAGF and as Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A chartered accountant and certified fraud examiner, Mr. Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Accountancy and a Master’s degree in Finance and Accounting. He is also a chartered stockbroker and chartered security and investment specialist.

Tinubu’s Confidence

President Tinubu expressed confidence in Mr. Ogunjimi’s ability to lead the treasury operations of the country effectively, emphasizing the critical role of the Accountant General’s office in the nation’s economic reforms.

“The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation is pivotal to our nation’s treasury management operations. Mr. Ogunjimi’s wealth of experience and notable competence will ensure the continued effectiveness of this vital institution as we advance our economic reform agenda,” President Tinubu stated.


The President also praised the outgoing AGF, Dr. Madein, for her dedication and service to the nation. Dr. Madein, who will officially retire on March 7, 2025, has reached the statutory retirement age in the civil service.
