Trump Prioritizes Ukraine Crisis Resolution in Upcoming Administration

Paris — President-elect Donald Trump declared that addressing the Ukraine crisis will be his foremost international priority upon taking office next month, noting that the situation in the Middle East is comparatively less challenging. In an interview with the French magazine Paris Match, conducted on Saturday and published on Wednesday, Trump emphasized the urgent need to resolve the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

“We must resolve the Ukraine issue with Russia,” Trump stated, reflecting on the staggering loss of life in the conflict. “Both nations are suffering tremendous casualties—numbers that are hard to comprehend. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers are dying,” he added, addressing his international agenda.

While acknowledging the Middle East as a significant concern, Trump suggested it presents fewer complexities than the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. “These are the two paramount issues we need to tackle, and we need to act swiftly. Many lives are at stake,” he remarked.

During his recent trip to Paris for the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral, following its devastating fire in 2019, Trump held discussions with both French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. “We had a constructive meeting with President Zelensky,” Trump noted.

Zelensky expressed gratitude for Trump’s “strong resolve” to bring an end to the war in Ukraine. Trump has previously stated he could resolve the Ukraine crisis in just 24 hours. Recently, he urged on his Truth Social platform for an “immediate ceasefire” and the initiation of negotiations.

Additionally, Trump reiterated his position on Syria, stating that the country needs to handle its own situation following recent developments regarding President Bashar al-Assad. “Syria must take care of itself,” he asserted during the interview. “We will not intervene in Syria.”
