Teen Shot Dead by Father in Pakistan After Refusing to Stop Posting ‘Indecent’ TikTok Videos
QUETTA, PAKISTAN– A Pakistani man has been arrested for allegedly killing his teenage daughter after she posted what he deemed inappropriate videos on TikTok, police said on Thursday.
The suspect, reportedly in his 50s, had recently relocated his family from the United States to Quetta, a city in southwestern Pakistan, according to local police chief Babar Baloch.
Authorities say the father admitted to shooting his daughter earlier this week after she refused to stop uploading content and dress more conservatively, as demanded by the family.
Police are treating the case as an “honour killing,” a practice still prevalent in Pakistan. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) estimates that around 1,000 women are murdered annually by relatives—fathers, brothers, or sons—under the guise of protecting family honour.
Despite a 2016 law aimed at curbing honour killings, a controversial Islamic legal clause still allows perpetrators to evade punishment if pardoned by the victim’s family, according to Amnesty International. Rights groups argue that this loophole continues to enable such crimes.
The investigation is said to be ongoing.
