Teen Charged with Capital Murder After Fatal Shooting During PlayStation 5 Sale in Houston Hotel
HOUSTON, U.S.A – An 18-year-old has been charged with capital murder and aggravated robbery after a tragic encounter turned deadly during the sale of a PlayStation 5.
The suspect, Zavion Joshua Pabon, allegedly shot and killed 37-year-old Tyler McGinty during a meeting to purchase the gaming console. The incident occurred on November 24 at a hotel located at 3850 Wilcrest Drive, according to the Houston Police Department (HPD).
McGinty, critically injured in the shooting, was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries four days later, on November 28.
“He Got His Head Blown Off for a PlayStation 5”
McGinty’s mother, Tammy Smith, revealed that her son had listed the console online for $350 and arranged to meet a potential buyer at the hotel.
“He got his head blown off for a PlayStation 5,”
Smith told KTRK, adding that her son had previously sold items online without any issues.
“You don’t think like that,” Smith said. “Normal people don’t do this. This isn’t a normal person. This is a very, very bad individual.”
Despite her grief, Smith finds comfort in knowing her son was an organ donor.
“It just makes me happy, and it comforts me in my time of need as a mom going through grief,” she said.
Suspect Arrested, Denied Bond
Pabon was identified as a person of interest during the investigation and was arrested on December 5. He is currently being held without bond, according to Harris County court records. His next hearing is scheduled for December 12.
This tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers associated with online transactions. Police urge residents to meet in well-lit, public areas or use designated exchange zones at local police stations for such exchanges.
