A 13-year-old boy crashed a $500,000 Lamborghini Huracán during a test-drive, resulting in significant damage to the luxury sports car.

The incident, which occurred amid dark and rainy conditions on the Trans-Canada Highway in West Vancouver, has raised questions about the responsibility of vehicle owners and the need for stricter regulations in the sale of high-performance vehicles.

According to reports, the 13-year-old boy, accompanied by his friend, deceived the seller into believing that he was old enough to drive, leading to the ill-fated joyride. The vehicle’s owner, in the process of selling the Lamborghini, apparently failed to inquire about the teenager’s age or license status before handing over the keys, a lapse in judgment that would ultimately have serious consequences.

Witnesses described the harrowing scene as the young driver lost control of the Lamborghini while traveling at a speed of 62mph in adverse weather conditions. The vehicle veered off the highway and into a ditch, causing extensive damage to the luxury car and prompting emergency responders to rush to the scene.

West Vancouver Police Sgt. Chris Bigland expressed concerns over the lack of due diligence on the part of the vehicle’s owner, stating to North Shore News, “We do not believe that the registered owner was aware of the true age of this young person, or that they were unable or were not licensed to drive in British Columbia.”. The incident underscores the importance of verifying the qualifications of individuals before entrusting them with high-performance vehicles, especially in cases involving minors.

Despite the severity of the crash, the 13-year-old driver is not facing charges of theft, as the owner had permitted them to use the vehicle for the test-drive. However, the teenager has been charged with multiple offenses under the Motor Vehicle Act, including speeding, driving without due care, failing to remain at the scene of a crash, and driving without a license.

It is worth noting that the matter will not proceed to court unless the teenager chooses to dispute the tickets issued under the Motor Vehicle Act. Meanwhile, the vehicle’s owner is not facing any charges in connection with the incident, although authorities have highlighted the need for greater caution and responsibility among sellers when dealing with prospective buyers, particularly minors.

In light of the crash, police have submitted a report to the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia to assess any potential claims and determine the course of action regarding the damaged Lamborghini. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with underage driving and the importance of stringent regulations to prevent such occurrences in the future.

As authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, questions remain about the adequacy of safety measures and oversight in the sale and use of high-performance vehicles. The incident underscores the need for greater vigilance and accountability among both vehicle owners and sellers to ensure the safety of all road users and prevent similar incidents from happening again.
