The Edo State Police Command has apprehended 35 individuals suspected of cultism in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of the state.

The operation, conducted by the Anti-Cultism Unit of the command, was prompted by intelligence indicating a gathering of students believed to be affiliated with the Vikings cult confraternity for an initiation ceremony.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, the arrests took place on Saturday, April 27, following a tip-off about the clandestine initiation process.

The Commissioner of Police for Edo State, CP Funsho Adegboye, emphasized the command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of citizens. He urged the public to continue providing actionable information to aid law enforcement efforts.

The apprehended individuals are currently in custody as investigations into the matter continue.

The successful operation underscores the ongoing efforts by the police to curtail cult-related activities in Edo State and maintain peace and security within the community.
