The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made significant strides in combating internet fraud, apprehending a total of 132 suspected cybercriminals across Kwara, Cross River, and Osun States.
Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement released on Friday in Abuja, detailing the agency’s successful operations in the mentioned states.
In Osun State, 64 suspected fraudsters were nabbed in Ede following actionable intelligence regarding their fraudulent activities. Among the items recovered from the suspects were 18 exotic vehicles, 18 laptops, 112 mobile phones, and other incriminating documents.
Similarly, 25 suspects were apprehended in Ilorin, Kwara State, during sting operations conducted in response to credible intelligence about internet fraud activities in the area. Recovered items included six exotic cars, various brands of phones, and laptops.
Additionally, 44 suspected fraudsters were arrested in Satellite Town, Tinapa Junction, and Parliamentary Extension areas of Calabar, Cross River State. The recovered items from this operation comprised six exotic cars, 16 laptops, and 38 mobile phones.
Oyewale emphasized that all suspects would face charges in court upon the conclusion of investigations. These concerted efforts by the EFCC underscore the agency’s commitment to curbing internet fraud and ensuring the prosecution of perpetrators across different states in Nigeria.
