Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, has unveiled a compassionate initiative aimed at marrying off 100 female orphans who tragically lost their parents to banditry attacks in Mariga Local Government Area.
Addressing journalists in Minna, the state capital, Sarkindaji shared details of the plan, expressing his commitment to cover the dowries for the brides and ensuring all necessary arrangements are in place for the mass marriage ceremony.
The girls chosen for the marriage were carefully selected from a pool of 170 candidates, although their specific age range was not disclosed by the Speaker. Sarkindaji, who represents the Mariga Constituency, framed the initiative as part of his constituency empowerment project, designed to alleviate the hardships faced by the underprivileged.
Furthermore, the Speaker disclosed that the Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umar Bago, and the Emir of Kontagora, Alhaji Mohammed Barau, will act as guardians to the female orphans throughout the marriage proceedings. Additionally, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, the Kano State Commander General of the Hisbah Board, is expected to be present at the ceremony, scheduled to take place on May 24 at Bangi, the headquarters of Mariga Local Government Area.
