In a dramatic midnight operation, the Rivers State Police Command arrested Meshach Monday, a 27-year-old from Ogoni, known for his involvement in car theft. The arrest occurred after a high-speed chase through the city.
Meshach, who worked as a security officer at Geepap Mobile Company, was intercepted by officers from the Olu Obasanjo Division while driving a Toyota Corolla along Olu Obasanjo Road. His suspicious behavior and attempt to evade the police near the G.R.A junction drew the officers’ attention. The chase continued onto Aba Road, where Meshach was ultimately apprehended.
During interrogation, Meshach confessed to the crime, revealing that he had concealed his driving skills during his two-year employment at Geepap. Driven by hunger, he stole a customer’s car that had been parked for maintenance, intending to sell it and improve his circumstances.
Grace Iringe-Koko, the police public relations officer, stated on Sunday that Mr. Godfrey, the General Manager at Geepap, was surprised to learn of Meshach’s hidden driving abilities and the theft. He confirmed that the stolen vehicle was undergoing repairs at the time of the incident.
The case has been charged to court, and police investigations are ongoing to capture Meshach’s accomplices in the car theft ring. Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu has urged citizens to enhance their security measures by installing cameras and alarms to prevent similar incidents, especially outside of working hours.
