Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has announced the immediate payment of bursaries to indigenous students of the state.
Governor Fubara made the announcement today at the Obi-Wali Cultural Centre in Port Harcourt during the account of stewardship of his one year in office.
The governor’s announcement to pay student bursaries is the first in eight years following the negligence of the scheme by the previous administration of Nyesom Wike.
Before now, the Governors of Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo states have made similar announcements as reported by Report Afrique, relieving their indigenous students of the burden of the effects of the harsh economic situation on them.
Similarly, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State offered to pay bursaries and grants to indigenous students of the state in the Nigerian law school.
Governor Fubara’s announcement was followed by an appreciation message released by his Special Adviser on Student Affairs, Comr. Soye Maxwell, on his Facebook page.
Student leaders of Rivers State also could not hide their joy as many of them released official messages thanking the Governor for remembering the student community in the state.
