Nigeria is set to save $30 million annually by converting cassava to ethanol, according to Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji.
This initiative, announced during the signing of an MoU between Montserrado Investments and FIIRO, aims to establish a cassava-based ethanol plant in Ekiti State.
The project is expected to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported ethanol, support local farmers, and stimulate employment in the agricultural sector.
The plant will utilize advanced technology to convert cassava into ethanol efficiently, promoting industrial growth and economic stability.
Dr. Jummai Adamu Tutuwa, CEO of FIIRO, highlighted the benefits of the collaboration, including substantial economic activities, job creation, and environmental sustainability.
The initiative is part of Nigeria’s efforts to diversify its energy sources, foster innovation, and drive economic growth.
The pilot project will commence in Ekiti State, with plans to expand to other geopolitical zones across the nation.
