In a significant breakthrough, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Shuaibu Waidi, has handed over 333 people, including a Chibok schoolgirl, her two children, and 330 women and children, who were rescued from the Sambisa forests where they were being held captive by Boko Haram terrorists.
The handover ceremony took place at the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, Borno State. General Waidi explained that the rescue operations were conducted as part of the theatre’s efforts to restore normalcy in the region and facilitate socio-economic activities. He commended the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Army Staff for their guidance and support, which contributed to the success of the operation.
According to General Waidi, a total of 19 Chibok girls have been rescued since the beginning of military operations in the region. The latest rescue is a significant milestone in the efforts to free the remaining Chibok girls still in captivity.
Ihi Abdul, the rescued Chibok schoolgirl, was rescued on July 23rd along with her two children and is three months pregnant. She was previously married off to three different husbands while she was in captivity. The 33-year-old mother of two has undergone medical treatment and is now being handed over to the Borno State Government for further care.
The Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Brigadier General Abubakar Haruna, who was present at the ceremony, revealed that Ihi Abdul was rescued by troops of the 22 Task Force Brigade. He expressed hope that her story will serve as a testament to the resilience of those who have been affected by Boko Haram’s atrocities.
The handover ceremony marks a significant step forward in the efforts to rebuild lives and restore hope to those affected by the insurgency. The Borno State Government has pledged to provide necessary support and care to Ihi Abdul and other rescued individuals, ensuring that they receive the necessary assistance to rebuild their lives.
