The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) community is in mourning following the untimely death of a 300-level Computer Science student, Naja’atu Salisu, who was found unconscious in a hostel bathroom on Friday morning.
According to eyewitnesses, Naja’atu entered the bathroom in the female hostel on the Gubi campus to take a bath and prepare for her morning lectures, just like she did every other day. However, she failed to emerge from the bathroom, leaving her roommate and others concerned.
Her roommate recounted that Naja’atu had completed her morning routine, leaving her clothes on the side of her bed before heading into the bathroom. When she didn’t return, her roommate grew worried and alerted authorities.
Despite being rushed to the university’s clinic for medical attention, medical personnel were unable to find a vein in her body. She was subsequently transferred to the Trauma Centre of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where a medical doctor certified her death.
The ATBU Spokesperson, Zailani Bappa, confirmed the incident and stated that Naja’atu was buried according to Islamic rites.
In a condolence message, the ATBU Students Union Government (SUG) described Naja’atu as a hardworking student who will be greatly missed by the student community. Comrade Danladi Zakiru, Secretary of the Union, paid tribute to Naja’atu’s dedication and commitment to her studies, stating that her loss would be deeply felt.
The university administration has promised to provide support to Naja’atu’s family and friends during this difficult time.
