Kano, Nigeria – A tragic incident has struck Karkari village in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, as a widow and her five children have died after consuming a local delicacy known as Danwake.

The Kano State Police Command confirmed the heartbreaking event.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, the victims were rushed to Gwarzo General Hospital after showing severe symptoms. Unfortunately, all six members of the family were declared dead by the attending doctors.

The incident reportedly occurred last Thursday when the widow, identified as Alhakatu Abdulkarim, prepared the meal using expired cassava flour. The victims included her five children: Bashir, Firdausi, Hafsat, Usman, and Jamilu.

SP Haruna stated that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of death, and the police are awaiting a detailed medical report from the hospital.
