Conor McGregor Loses Case Against Woman in High-Profile Rape Allegation Dispute
Woman Triumphs Over Conor McGregor in Shocking Civil Verdict

A woman has won a civil court judgment against mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor, securing damages of 248,603 euros ($258,559) stemming from her allegations that he raped her in a Dublin hotel in 2018. The jury reached their verdict on Friday, despite McGregor’s denial of the claims, stating that their encounter was consensual.

Nikita Hand, 35, accused the 36-year-old sports star of “brutally raping and battering” her in a hotel in south Dublin in December 2018. Following the verdict, Hand expressed hope that her story would empower others to speak out against abuse. “I hope my story is a reminder that no matter how afraid you might be: Speak up, you have a voice and keep on fighting for justice,” she told reporters.

Hand acknowledged the unwavering support of her family, particularly her daughter Freya, who she credited with providing her the strength and courage needed to pursue justice throughout the difficult six-year ordeal. “I want to show Freya and every other girl and boy that you can stand up for yourself if something happens to you – no matter who the person is – and justice will be served,” she emphasized.

In civil cases like this one, the standard of proof is based on the balance of probabilities, which differs from criminal trials that require proof beyond a reasonable doubt. Although the jury sided with Hand regarding her allegations against McGregor, she was unsuccessful in an assault lawsuit against a second individual.

Hand stated that she was “overwhelmed and touched” by the support she received from the public during her case. “For every person who reached out to me -– a card, a letter, an email, everything –- it hasn’t gone unnoticed. Thank you, I really appreciate it so much,” she expressed.

The court heard evidence over two weeks, with various witnesses testifying, including Hand, who, unlike in sexual assault cases, does not have an automatic right to anonymity.
